Gary Prado Salmon, a Bolivian general known for leading the patrol that captured Cuban communist icon Che Guevara in 1967, has died aged 84. He was declared a national hero by the CIA-trained junta that ran Bolivia at the time, but is seen as a hero by modern Bolivians, leading to friction between military veterans and the country's current socialist government. Guevara is seen as a hero to leftist groups across the Americas, and the US trained and supported right-wing juntas across Latin America, leading to brutal results.
