US politicians intend to "infuriate" China—Nikkei

February 12, 2023

(RT) ⸻ An American politician told Nikkei on Sunday that the US House of Representatives Select Committee on China is considering sending a legislative delegation to Taiwan in support of the self-governed island, despite knowing it would anger Beijing. The committee was formed to address what the US sees as growing Beijing problems in national security, trade, and the economy. If the group visited Taiwan, it may conduct a field hearing, and incoming House Speaker Kevin McCarthy may visit the island this spring. China's One China policy deems Taiwan sovereign, and nationalists have dominated the island after fleeing the mainland with US assistance.
