Israeli military veterans, the movement's backbone, promise to continue protesting.

Yiftach Golov is one of thousands of veterans and military reservists who have taken up the cause of saving Israeli democracy in protest of the Israeli government's judicial overhaul plan. He is one of the most active organizers and demonstrators, carrying a figure wrapped in the Israeli flag on a stretcher. Golov has not taken the drastic step to refuse service, but understands the motivation. Israel's protest movement is made up of many disparate groups, but the pressure from Israel's veterans has been seen as a key to moving the needle. Last Monday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced a pause to the legislation, but protesters are still out in large numbers.
They are motivated by a deep feeling that they are part of something bigger than themselves and are willing to sacrifice anything needed. Last Monday's mass protests and strike action came a day after Netanyahu fired Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for advocating a delay in passing the legislation. Netanyahu said he would delay votes until after the Knesset's Passover recess in April to give time for discussion. Protesters don't believe the pause is real, or say it's a stalling tactic to give Netanyahu some breathing room.
