Singapore's defense minister, Ng Eng Hen, has warned that a US-China conflict would have profound implications for the entire world. He added that all nations must come together in the next decade to prevent escalating tensions between Beijing and Washington from reaching a tipping point. He noted that 30% of global seaborne trade passes through the South China Sea, which includes one-quarter of global oil and one-third of global container trade. Ng also noted that the world is dependent on China as a major manufacturer for sundry goods and many essentials of our way of life, and that no "transnational global challenges" can be addressed without input from Beijing.
