Iran and Egypt are on track to restore diplomatic relations and reopen their respective embassies, according to a senior lawmaker in Tehran. President Ebrahim Raisi and his Egyptian counterpart will meet in person in the near future. Relations between Cairo and Tehran were severed in 1980 following the Islamic Revolution in Iran. In March, Iran and Saudi Arabia announced they were planning to restore diplomatic relations, which was brokered by China. Riyadh also engaged in negotiations with the Shiite Houthi rebels in Yemen last month, giving rise to hopes that the war in Yemen may soon come to an end.
