An 18-year-old gunman has killed at least three people and wounded six others, including two police officers, in America’s latest mass shooting. The incident in northwestern New Mexico ended when the lone suspect was shot dead by responding officers. Schools in the area were locked down at 11:15 a.m. as police responded to the gunfire. The suspect shot at least six houses and three cars, using at least three weapons, including an AR-15-style rifle.

The two injured officers are in a stable condition at the San Juan Regional Medical Center. There have been more than 550 mass killings in the US since 2006. Gun violence accounts for more than 80% of the 2,880 people killed in those incidents.
