Two died, 16 wounded when train derails in Qalyoub city, Nile Delta: Health ministry

(Alahram) βΈ» Two people were killed and 16 others injured as a train crashed into the platform before derailing at Qalyoub train station in Qalyoubiya governorate in the Nile Delta north of Cairo on Tuesday evening. The health ministry said three of the injured received aid at the site of the crash and three others left the Emergency Department of Qalyoub Specialised Hospital. 20 ambulances were dispatched to the scene and the prosecution is investigating the incident. The Egyptian National Railways (ENR) said the train failed to heed the semaphore signal and crashed into the buffer stopper at 7:20 pm, causing the locomotive and the front car to derail. Minister of Social Solidarity Nevine El-Qabbaj announced disbursing an EGP 100,000 in compensation to each of the families of those killed in the crash and those who would suffer from permanent disability. Minister of Transport Kamel El-Wazir ordered the formation of a committee to determine the cause and identify responsible individuals.
