According to the UN refugee agency, the UK asylum bill will "undermine" international law.
March 8, 2023
(cnn) βΈ» The UK government has introduced an illegal immigration bill aimed at blocking undocumented migrants from entering the country on small boats, despite criticism from the UN and other global bodies. The UNHCR said the bill would be a "clear breach" of the 1951 Refugee Convention, which defines refugees as those seeking refuge from persecution and gives them the right to not be sent back home. Most people fleeing war and persecution are unable to access the required passports and visas, and denying them access to asylum on this basis undermines the purpose for which the Refugee Convention was established.
