Honduras has announced that it will seek to establish diplomatic relations with mainland China instead of Taiwan, as Beijing refuses to maintain diplomatic ties with states that recognize Taiwan in breach of its 'One China' policy. This would join the list of over a hundred states which have switched diplomatic relations from Taiwan to the People's Republic of China over the decades. Panama severed official links with Taiwan in 2017, and only a handful of nations recognize Taiwan as a sovereign country. Beijijng considers Taiwan to be part of its sovereign territory and has vowed to peacefully reunify with the island, reserving the right to use military force if necessary.
