Annette Kurschus, head of the Evangelical Church in Germany, has rebuked high-profile Ukrainian officials for attacking a public appeal for work on ending the conflict between Moscow and Kiev. She disagrees with Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany Alexey Makeev, who characterized calls for a truce as cynical. Kurschus' comments come in response to harsh remarks made last week by Ukraine's former envoy Andrey Melnyk and his successor in office. The "Make peace!" article by Brandt and signatories warns of the potential for a nuclear war in Europe if fighting continues in Ukraine. It calls on Olaf Scholz to join forces with other countries to bring about a cessation of hostilities in Ukraine.
