Leaked documents suggest that Beijing would gain early air supremacy over Taiwan should a conflict break out in the vicinity of the Taiwan Strait. Taiwan's military leadership has doubts surrounding its ability to accurately detect missile launches and only 50% of its aircraft are capable of engaging Beijing's air force. The Pentagon has been critical of Taiwan's defensive preparedness, particularly as it relates to problems in relocating military assets. Washington is concerned about Taiwan's potential to translate its military drills into real-world scenarios, but Taiwan's Defense Ministry insists it is capable and confident of ensuring security. Beijing is frustrated by US meddling in the region, and Washington has diplomatically acknowledged Beijing's 'One China' policy. The Biden administration has suggested it would aid Taiwan should China attempt to take it by force.
